In this game of live chess between Saheb, Biwi and Gangster, the winner, the survivor takes it all.
What to look out for
Like the previous Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster legacy Gangster returns is `loyal' to its `engagement' and proves its worth for the wait. Tigmanshu makes the viewers stay and hang on.. having an eye for character establishment and scene development Tigmanshu is in full form maintaining the unpredictability of the lead principle cast from the first part while convincingly introducing Irrfan and Soha as the new romantic add on with elan.
Tigmanshu is excellent in making us feel the Hindi heartland for those 2 hours on screen no matter in which ever part of the world we come from and from where we are watching this film. highly commendable..
Tigmanshu's grasp over this particular medium of power, politics, small town is tremendous.. the writings over here is brilliant especially the dialogues which adds to the glory of the characters especially Mahi Gill and Jimmy Shergill.
Apart from his famous repertoire Tigmanshu this times adds some wicked humour in this tale of revenge where we find chameleons from time to time.. the oath scene and the ministers interview stays with you for long.
Coming to performances.. well in how many films have you find the lead actors seriously drawn into a competition with their co -stars and themselves.. this movie is a hallmark of acting fames.
Starting with the Biwi (ladies first) - Mahie Gill is exemplary.. she is the sexy seductive soul of this franchise where she delivers a masterly act.. stealing all the attention while making the kill by her `body' of work on screen.
You need something special in you to match the caliber of irrfan as your co -star and Mahie does extremely well to match the required standards. Just superb.
Irrfan Khan is at his best the actor has something special for Tigmanshu and again he brings it for his favorite director. Excellent. The oath scene is fantastic.
Jimmy Shergill as the Saheb is another testimony of how extremely talented this actor is and can deliver without a hitch. Here he improves himself from the first part and come out as a winner with special mention.
Soha Ali Khan makes sure that she does gets herself noticed and is not over shadowed by the towering performance of her co-stars.
New find Pravesh Rana is good, Raj Babbar fits the bill. Rahul Shrivastav's editing is sharp, Yogesh Jani camerawork is fantastic. Action is excellent. Production values are up to mark..
What not
Some may find it less on sex and more on romance accusing it of being overripe with this `tragedy'.
Conclusion: Poised between seductions, love, jealousy, thrill, wicked fun and winning performances Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns is dressed to thrill.. go for it.
