Sadhguru undergoes emergency surgery

Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, spiritual guru and founder of the Isha Foundation, recently underwent emergency brain surgery at the Apollo Hospital in Delhi due to life-threatening swelling and bleeding in his brain. Despite suffering from severe headaches for the last four weeks, he continued with his normal daily schedule and social activities, including conducting the Maha Shivaratri function on March 8. Dr. Vinit Suri, a senior consultant neurologist at Apollo Hospital, mentioned in a video posted by the Isha Foundation that Sadhguru had ignored the pain and carried on with all meetings, even as his headaches worsened.

On March 15, when Sadhguru’s headache worsened, he consulted Dr. Suri over the phone, who insisted on an urgent MRI. Despite having a meeting scheduled, Sadhguru agreed to the MRI, which revealed massive bleeding in the brain, indicating a chronic bleed of three to four weeks duration as well as fresh bleeding within 24 to 48 hours.

Despite being advised immediate hospitalization, Sadhguru completed his commitments. However, on March 17, his condition deteriorated significantly, and he was rushed to the hospital with a decline in consciousness, drowsiness, weakness in the left leg, and a marked worsening headache with recurrent vomiting.

Dr. Suri described the urgency of the situation, stating that Sadhguru’s brain had shifted to one side, causing him to become very dull and confused. The emergency surgery was successful, and Sadhguru is now off the ventilator and is recovering well. Dr. Suri praised Sadhguru’s recovery, stating that he is back to his normal self and making steady progress, likely healing himself more than medical interventions could achieve.

The Isha Foundation issued a statement confirming Sadhguru’s health journey, highlighting his dedication despite the severity of his condition. Sadhguru’s recovery has been better than expected, with his brain, body, and vital parameters improving to normal levels. Dr. Suri emphasized that Sadhguru is actively participating in his healing process, complementing the medical measures.
