Packed with powerful narrative and superlative narrative, Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo is helmed by Homi Adajania and penned by Saurav Dey, Karan Vyas, Nandini Gupta, and Aman Mannan, set in an alternate universe or dystopian world, where a matriarch Savitri (Dimple) runs her empire with firm grip on things, but soon she is faced with a worth rival from the past, who threatens to destroy her world. Will she survive this attack with her own problems and dysfunctional family, makes the story of the action packed series.
The show opens in a night-club, where a young boy purchases a drug called flamingo, and overdoses on it. This boy is son of Deputy CM, who appoints a driven ACP to track down the entire cartel. Then we are introduced to Savitri/Rani Ba, a tough matriarch who runs an empire in the inaccessible Borderlands with an army of women. Hardened by the harsh betrayal of barren land, Savitri, once had a life full of hopes and dreams, but she witnesses her husband’s murder; she is raped, tortured and left to die in the middle of a dessert. She swore to avenge her husband and never feel helpless again.
And now we’re being introduced to Monk, played by Deepak Dobriyal, a stone cold killer with a burning desire to destroy Savitri at all cost. Savitri is being hunted by Monk, a relentless cop and her boss (Naseeruddin), and to make matters worse, she decides to appoint a successor, which causes so much mayhem that everyone is just gunning for her.
The series offers something new and refreshing; new characters, new landscape and with the help of an amazing screen-play every actor digs deep within the character and creates something which has never been seen before in series format. Dimple Kapadia, Radhika Madan, Isha Talwar and Angira Dhar, shed their girl-next-door avatars, and we are introduced to a whole new level of action diva’s, who are flawed yet brave and gutsy.
Ashish Verma and Varun Mitra, as sons of Savitri, are space cadets, rich spoilt brats, who are lost in their own bubbles. Adopted son, Udit Arora, is a new find who plays the outsider within the family with a unique vulnerability that makes you root for him. Deepak Dobriyal, as Monk, and Nasseruddin Shah as Sahebji, are formidable and command your attention. Their portrayal of cunning and brutal two timers makes the series worthwhile.
Costume designer Maxima Basu, production designer Bindiya Chhabria and Arvind Kumar, deserve a special shoutout for their hard-work, they made this fictional world so believable it is amazing. Cinematographer Linesh Desai takes off delightful visual spectacle, it is surreal. The series is definitely an intense family saga packed with a solid dose of lust, blood, sex, drugs, romance, and action.
