Bellamkonda Srinivas awaits the release of 'Saakshyam' on July 27. In this interview, the young hero talks about the film's unique concept, its fights, why he had to risk so much, how he prepared for the action hero role in the movie, his upcoming movies and more.
You makers are highlighting the concept of five elements around which the story of 'Saakshyam' has been built. What is it about?
The five elements of Nature, namely water, fire, air, earth and space, are a sine qua non for the Universe. These are the eternal witness and it's around this concept that the story of 'Saakshyam' has been weaved. Our film is not a socio-fantasy entertainer. It's magical. You will never find any moment incredulous. Rather, you will be wowed by the content. What attracted me the most to the story is this very concept of five elements of Nature as a witness. Nobody had ever made a film like this in the past. Probably, after 'Saakshyam', we are going to see a few movies made around the concept. Sriwass's narration is that powerful.
Producer Abhishek Nama was saying in an interview that you had put in strenuous efforts in prepping up for the movie. You have sported six-pack abs, and even shed some weight. Isn't it?
Yes. Once I greenlighted 'Saakshyam', I didn't accept any other project. Since the movie has significant action sequences, I wanted to give my best. I went to Dubai to get physically trained. I did all the stunts without a body double. Peter Hein master made me pull off a lot of risks. I will be seen as a gaming developer in the movie. I have done cycling, etc.
Was it necessary to take so much risk?
Peter Hein master once told me that he was hospitalized for three months post-'Magadheera'. He took nothing else but just water during hospitalization. It's because of his dedication that he landed a magnum opus like 'Baahubali'. Upon coming to know this from him, I told Peter master that I too will give my best.
Coming to action sequences, what makes them special?
They are there because of the very concept of the film. There are five huge action episodes in the backdrop of the five elements. The fight around the theme of fire was mounted in Varanasi. You will see a whole new Ghat in the movie. The fight around the theme of water was shot in Andhra Pradesh. The fight around the theme of earth was shot in the backdrop of Bellary mines. I must say we have made a mini-'Baahubali'.
The budget of your films is going up film after film. Isn't it risky?
I am the son of a producer and I think like a producer. The scale of films in Tollywood is rising. Nowadays, we are getting very good amounts in terms of digital, and satellite rights. The budget of my movies is apt for my image.
We heard that the film is facing Censor-related issues. Is it true?
Any good attempt will face some or the other problem. Let me promise that 'Saakshyam' will hit the screens this July 27. We will overcome all hurdles.
You recently started shooting for Teja's movie. How is it going and what is your role in the movie?
The audience will be surprised to see me in a unique role in the movie. On the very first day of the shoot, Teja garu gave me a 10-page dialogue. I could complete the scene successfully. My director complimented me saying he had never thought that there is such a good actor in me. Teja garu had prepared the story 7 years ago. There are no fights in the first half.
What about the movie with debutant director Srinivas?
About 70 percent of the shooting is over. It will hit the screens in November. I am playing a police officer in the movie. In both the aforementioned films, Kajal Aggarwal is the heroine.
