Maharashtra opener Ruturaj Gaikwad has created history in white-ball cricket by clubbing seven consecutive sixes in an over to create a List A world record in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022.
The record was created during a Vijay Hazare Trophy quarterfinal match against Uttar Pradesh at the Narendra Modi Stadium B Ground, in Ahmedabad on Monday, wherein Ruturaj Gaikwad became the first player in the history of limited-overs cricket to hit seven sixes in an over. UP’s bowler Shiva Singh was at the receiving end when he bowled the 49th over of the innings, including a no-ball. Gaikwad ended up scoring an unbeaten 220 off 159, 10 fours and 16 sixes, helping his team finish with a total 330/5 in 50 overs.
The list of players who have hit six sixes in an over in professional cricket include Garry Sobers (1968), Ravi Shastri (1985), Herschelle Gibbs (2007), Yuvraj Singh (2007), Ross Whiteley (2017), Hazratullah Zazai (2018), Leo Carter (2020), Kieron Pollard (2021), Thisara Perera (2021), and Jaskaran Malhotra (2021).
