Feb. 10 saw the release of two theme-based films. Rushi and Dhoni proved to be tightly conceived and executed tales, which promised so much difference and relief. While the former is written and director by debutante director Raj Madiraju, the latter is directed by Prakash Raj, who is,, again, a debutante. Both the movies derive their strength from their subjects yes, but they also have lot to offer to your mind and heart.

Interestingly, both the films have, as key characters, two child artists at the centre of the story. However, the stories connect to all sections of the audience, and they can be easily described as two of the most educated films to have come out in recent times. Devoid of vulgarity and stuffed with substance, the films live up to their claims and pre-release promise.

Arvind Krishna-Supriya Shailaja starrer Rushi tells the story of a medico who knocks the door of justice for the life of a 7-year old boy. The audience are glued to the seats all through the second half, finding themselves guessing what would happen at the end.

Dhoni, a clean entertainer like Rushi, draws its popularity from Raj, whose one-man show the film is. Taking on our illiterate perspective of education system, it unfolds from the viewpoint of a middle-class father.

Good performances by one and all, neat humour, unique directorial touch, an aesthetic quality – these are common to both the films.
