'Run Raja Run's music director seems to have begun with experimenting a bit. Maybe he was wanted that way by his director. The album has got a quirky side to it. A song crooned by Chinmayee, that comes in the end, is the best in two senses: the music as well as its ability to undo the offbeat feel of the whole album.
Watch out the presentation on the screen as much as the songs.
Bujjimma Bujjimma
Artist: Gold Devaraj
Lyricist: Sri Mani
The song is quite hatka. The music director opens the album with a difference. Complete with Kollywood influences, the irreverent song has equally irreverent lyrics. The guy is basically in love with the girl's quirkiness, maybe. Gold Devaraj has an offbeat voice.
Coma Coma Coma
Artists: Kunal Ganjawala, Yasin Nazir
Lyricist: Ramajogayya Sastry
Again, the song is hatke for a Tollywood movie. The music is Bollywoodish for a change. Kunal and Yasin render the song to a good effect. The lyrics are quite creative; we have heard of many songs where the boy says that he doesn't remember his life before he met the girl. The lyrics give a voice to such thoughts in a modish fashion. A good number for sure.
Rajadhi Rajanappa
Artists: Thomas Andrews
Lyricist: Sri Mani
Not an original tune by all standards, the song passes muster. Maybe, this style of music is befitting for the mood of 'Run Raja Raja', which seems to have a quirky style of narration. Thomas Andrews makes us wonder if he was groomed by the redoubtable Usha Uttup. His voice if the best aspect of the song, followed by the lyrics, which invite us to have a peep into the guy's heartfelt emotions.
Shanthi Om Shanthi
Artists: Clinton Carejo, Maya Iyer
Lyricist: Ramajogayya Sastry
Here and there the song is peppered with the kind of instrumentation we saw in the recently released Billa Ranga. The song distracts our attention too early and too often. Clinton Carejo and Maya Iyer deliver decently good rendition. The lyrics have to be heard with attention so that the song doesn't fail to make an impression.
Vadhantune Nenu Vadhantune
Artists: Chinmayee
Lyricist: Ramajogayya Sastry
The song could have been haunting had it been original. It is Illayaraja now, and (maybe) his shishya, AR Rehman, next. Even so, Gibran dishes out an excellently crafted song. Chinmayee's vocals compete to be the best aspect of the song with the fantastic lyrics. The song is easily the best of the album.
