Warner Bros. has had to endure developmental hell over the years with regard to bringing a live action 'Akira' to the big screen. The latest rumor to hit the web is the project is speculated to be a trilogy and that 'Interstellar' and 'The Dark Knight' director Christopher Nolan has been discussing with Warner Bros. about helming the project.
Reports are now coming in speculating Nolan having met an unnamed filmmaker previously attached to the project over the past three months. This rumor comes just few days after it was announced that Nolan's next untitled film has a scheduled release date for July 2017. Although no details have been revealed about his next project, 'Akira' would be a massive Summer blockbuster project, if true.
Nolan's history with Warner Bros. has been a massive success after delivering hits in the form of 'The Dark Knight' trilogy and the Leonardo DiCaprio starrer 'Inception'. Nolan signing up with WB isn't out of the question, but the question remains whether he'd tread down the same path for another licensed adaptation trilogy so soon after his Batman franchise. As of now, it's all just rumor. We'll just have to wait and see how things unfold.
