An RSS activist has been arrested by the Thrissur police following the attack of Malayalam director Priyanandan with cow dung early Friday morning.

Award-winning Malayalam film director Priyanandan was on his way to a shop close to his residence when he was confronted by the RSS member, identified as 25-year-old Sarovar, and thrown cow dung at. The director’s recent post on Facebook regarding the Sabarimala issue had drawn flak from several people, following which he had to take down the post. Priyanandan expressed his suspicion on the involvement of BJP/RSS members in the incident as they had already threatened him for hurting their religious sentiments with his derogatory statements.

Following Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan’s demand to the police to nab the miscreant, Sarovar was arrested and booked under sections 355, 324, 506, 294b, and 153 of the IPC.

Priyanandan’s film Pulijanmam received the National Award for Best Feature Film in 2006.
