Rs 90K crore to be spent on free grains to 80 crore people: Modi

Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that the Pradhan Mantri Gareeb Kalyan Anna Yojana stands extended till the end of November. As much as Rs 90,000 crore has been allocated for the purpose.
Benefitting 80 crore people, 5 kg of free wheat and rice and 1 kg of dal will be distributed to crores of families over the next five months.
In his 4 PM address to the nation, the Prime Minister spoke of the outreach to the poor and the farming community ever since a national lockdown was announced in March. "The government had announced a package of Rs. 1.75 lakh crore initially. In the last three months, Rs. 31,000 crore has been deposited into the bank accounts of about 20 crore poor families. Besides, Rs. 18,000 crore has been deposited into bank accounts of more than 9 crore farmers," Modi said, as quoted by ANI.
With cases on the surge, Modi said, "We need to have a special focus on containment zones. If you see someone flouting norms, tell them to not do so."
With the rainy season on, Modi urged everyone to be extra circumspect. "This is the season of cough, fever and cold. We all need to take care of ourselves," Modi added.
