‘RRR’ poster: SS Rajamouli can’t escape the ‘copycat’ tag

The ‘copycat’ tag has been used for many Indian filmmakers from time to time. Even some of the most respected and finest ones, like Sanjay Leela Bhansali, have not been spared by discerning movie buffs. SS Rajamouli has faced the allegation of being a low-intensity plagiarist for years now. ‘Eega’, among others, comes to mind. In ‘Vikramarkudu’, the scene where Ravi Teja kills a baddie during a party is straight out of an old film featuring Vijayashanthi as a cop. Rajamouli’s knack is that he can make anything look original. That’s not a mean thing!

Coming to ‘RRR’, on Monday, the makers unveiled a majestic poster in which Ram Charan and Jr NTR are seen riding a horse and a bike, respectively. Since Cherry is good at horse-riding (as we saw in ‘Magadheera’), he seems to have been given the task of revving up the audience’s mood that way. And Young Tiger looks super-cool on the vintage bike.

The problem is that the still seems to be a rip-off of a still from the 2007 Hollywood feature film ‘Ghost Rider’. The resemblance is too glaring to miss. Many Netizens have pointed this out. Twitter user Krishna Katakam commented, “Great recreation of ‘Ghost Rider’: Slate’s last ride scene. I wish we could capture the same emotion from ‘RRR’ in this scene.”

If the emotion works, all this copycat image will mean nothing as far as ‘RRR’ goes.
