The purpose of a music launch before the release of a film is to create expectations on how the movie would be. Songs from 'Rowthiram', composed by newcomer Prakash Nikki, serve the purpose subtly.
Starring Jiiva and Shriya Saran in lead roles, 'Rowthiram' is directed by debutant Gokul and produced by R B Choudary's Super Good Films. There are five songs in the album and the list of lyricists includes Mahakavi Bharathi too. Let's check out how the numbers are...
Maalai Mangum Neram - Listen here (Ranina Reddy)
Prakash Niiki comes out in flying colours in the very first song itself. His smartness lies not just in composing a soothing melody with interesting interludes, but also in picking Ranina Reddy to sing it. A mesmerizing musical attempt is 'Maalai Mangum Neram...,' no doubts. However, don't blame us if you are reminded of Harris Jayaraj.
Gollimare - Listen here (Vallavan)
Singer Vallavan lives up to its name in this kuthu number, which shows the 'mass face' of Prakash Nikki. Obviously aimed at making the young dance, the song does it sufficiently. But if you ask us whether 'Gollimare...' would impress everyone listening to it, our answer is 'fifty-fifty'.
Adiye Un Kangal - Listen here (Udit Narayan, Sadhana Sargam)
Here comes the romantic duet, without which hardly there is any Tamil film. But this isn't the usual soft melody, thanks to Prakash Nikki and singers Udit Narayan-Sadhana Sargam, who make this number an interesting one. Visuals should add more value to this song, but we'll have to wait to know that.
Senganthal - Listen here (Haricharan)
Another melodious number from Prakash Nikki, which speaks about a young man's feelings for his ladylove. Haricharan gives life to the lyrics and tune. 'Senganthal...' may be the right choice for those in love.
Theme - Listen here (Palakkad Sriram)
Who else than Bharathiyar could ably express anger in words? In this 'theme', the might of the Mahakavi's pen is felt once again. A fast phased rhythm by Prakash Nikki and good rendition by Palakkad Sriram do have an impact on the listener. Good work, we must say.
Prakash Nikki is a welcome debut. Good scripts and talented directors can bring out the best from him. |
