Rottweiler dogs are known as one of the most ferocious breeds in the world and are often used in bungalows and farms as guards. One such dog in Avadi in Chennai had loosened its noose and since the house gate was open escaped in a bad mood.
According to the neighbours nine year-old S. Vishnu was walking in the neighbourhood when the rottweiler attacked him suddenly and mauled his head biting off half the scalp on the head. It is said that by the time the owners came out and pulled the dog severe damage had already been done. The boy was first rushed to a private hospital in Iyanambakkam and later shifted to the government hospital in Thousand Lights area.
Police have filed a case against the owner of the rottweiler N. Kumar and have also taken the dog into custody for observation by a government veterinarian to assess why it attacked the boy so angrily. Neighbours have meanwhile told pressmen that the dog was not properly trained and such watchdogs need to be trained to prevent from such unfortunate incidences from recurring.
