Imman is no longer a minimum guarantee music director, who can give 1-2 good tracks and round off the rest with average numbers. He has shown what he could do with his music, provided, if the script offers him some scope. A sweeping hit is eluding him for some time now, because he’s been serving out some middling albums in the recent past and losing his mark. Let’s see what he got to deliver with Jayam Ravi – Hansika starrer ‘Romeo Juliet’.
Dandanakka – Anirudh Ravichander
Well, mixing the famous dialogues of Superstar in a racy song has been happening for a couple of years now. Anirudh, Santosh, and Sean Roldan have successfully mixed some evergreen punch dialogues of superstar to their songs and now Imman has followed them. But, this time, the show-stopper is our own ‘Ashtavadhani’ T. Rajendar. Jeyam Ravi is said to be a fan of T.R in 'Romeo Juliet' and that has provided ample opportunity for Imman to play around with the theme. He roped in Anirudh to croon the typical ‘Madras’ flavor song with a groovy beat surrounding the lyrics.
Anirudh has given his best in the funkiest way, but it is the T.R’s famous stage talks steals the limelight from him. This song got all the ingredients for the viewers to be on their feet at the cinema halls.
Thoovanam – Vishal Dadlani
After delivering one of the biggest hits of 2014 with ‘Aathi Ena Nee’, Vishal Dadlani is back to Kollywood to croon a classy melody. There are some traces of Imman’s earlier work are pretty evident in this track, but the same has been covered brilliantly by the sound arrangements. The chorus part in the second interlude gives a halcyon effect. This track is destined to go places!
Idharkkuthanae Aasaippattai – Vaikkom Vijayalakshmi
So far, we have heard pathos and mild numbers from Vijayalkashmi, but Imman seems to have decided to paint a new color to her avatar by giving a joyful track. The song does carry loads of head turners in the form of western instruments, traditional violin, and a glorious chorus to back up Vijayalakshmi throughout the song. The track carries the ‘Chartbuster’ tag right from its start.
Romeo Romeo – Vishal Dadlani
Imman dishes a party track after ‘Yennamo Edho’. The track throws some quirky lines from the pen of Madhan Karky – “Nokia, Samsung, iPhone.. Edhuda Un Aalu”… “ Pennin Azhugaiyum, Pennin Azhagaiyum Nee Aala Katrukkondaal”. The composer is brilliant enough to incorporate veena in between the fast number is a worthy experiment. This song might pay rich dividends after the movie’s release. If the visuals back it up.
Adiye Ivaley – Anthony Dassan
After scoring heavily in the first four songs, Imman falters here big time. A track got nothing but clichés all over it. It sounds like a forced entity for a ‘soup’ song scenario. Anthony Dassan has tried to inject some force with his vocals, but that too goes in vain in this lifeless number.
Thoovanam (Reprise) – Sunitha Sarathy
A toned version of its predecessor. Sunitha got the pronunciation pitch perfect compared to Vishal. Imman has shifted his gears towards limited instruments for this reprise version and that offers a sweeping melody. Sunitha’s soulful rendition ends the album on a good note.
