The Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI) is led by senior director RK Selvamani, who is better known to the Telugus as YCP leader and former actress Roja's husband. The news is that Selvamani has stoked a major row in the Tamil film industry by demanding that the production works of Kollywood movies must be conducted only in Tamil Nadu (for the major part).
He took a strong exception to major stars like Rajinikanth, Ajith and Thalapathy Vijay participating in film shoots in cities like Hyderabad and Vizag. For the unversed, Rajini's 'Annaatthe' was shot at Ramoji Film City to a good extent. Even 'Valimai' was shot at RFC. And now, Vijay's 66th movie is being shot currently in Hyderabad.
As per Selvamani, superstar movies, which involve 100s of junior artists/crew members, would generate employment for localites if shot in Tamil Nadu. He added that he is not aware of any norm decided by the Tamil Film Producers Council that prescribes that film shoots can be done anywhere as per the convenience of the makers.
Selvamani stated that Chennai has all the amenities to host film shoots. He has urged a couple of big stars to encourage film shoots in Tamil Nadu and it's said that they are in favour of doing so.
