A man from Haryana strangled his father to death after the latter refused to lend him money to pay off his debt from losing lakhs in betting on the 2019 Indian Premier League that concluded recently.

After losing a huge amount of money in betting on the IPL matches, the man decided to approach his father, a prominent furniture trader in Rohtak, and ask him for the money to help pay off his debt. When the father refused to lend him the demanded amount, the son strangled him to death in a fit of rage. He further called his juvenile son to the crime spot and got his assistance in disposing off the body near a sugar mill. He later informed the locals of his father’s disappearance and launched a search, pretending all the while.

The police arrested the man and his son when they found that the former made contradicting statements during the interrogation. Under sustained interrogation, the accused confessed to the murder.
