In India’s match against Pakistan in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019, Rohit Sharma’s performance earned him massive appreciations, as the batsman’s outstanding knock of 140 off 113 proved to be match-winning.
Through the course of his ton, Rohit managed to replicate Sachin Tendulkar’s classic uppercut shot against fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar during the 2003 World Cup. He smashed an uppercut off a short-pitch delivery from Hasan Ali that was very similar to Sachin’s shot. ICC’s official page posted a video of the two shots coupled in a frame, with the caption, “Sachin in 2003 or Rohit in 2019 – who did it better?” In response to the tweet, Sachin posted, “We both are from INDIA and in this case, AAMCHI MUMBAI as well...So heads I win, tails you lose!”
Rohit’s 140 off 113 knock made him overtake skipper Virat Kohli to become the Indian cricketer with the highest individual score in a World Cup match against Pakistan.
