Roger Federer withdraws from Tokyo Olympics: Details

Swiss Tennis champion Roger Federer has pulled out of the Tokyo Olympics 2020, set to begin later this month, due to a knee injury. Federer, who underwent two knee surgeries in 2020, was knocked out of Wimbledon by Hubert Hurkacz in the quarter-finals last week.
In a statement on social media, the 20-time Grand Slam champion said, During the grass court season, I unfortunately experienced a setback with my knee, and have accepted that I must withdraw from the Tokyo Olympic Games. I am greatly disappointed, as it has been an honor and highlight of my career each time I have represented Switzerland. I have already begun rehabilitation in the hopes of returning to the tour later this summer. I wish the entire Swiss team the best of luck and I will be rooting hard from afar.
Federer won the gold medal in the doubles at the 2008 Games in Beijing and a silver medal in the singles at the London Olympics in 2012. Other major Tennis players who withdrew from the Tokyo Olympics include Stan Wawrinka, Nick Kyrgios, Simona Halep, Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams, Simona Halep, and Dominic Thiem.
