The country is turning towards the electric vehicle culture following raise in fuel costs. Tesla is an American automobile company that produces electric vehicles. Earlier this month, we had updated you that Tesla has acquired approval for 4 models in India.
Now, Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari confirmed that Tesla has been in talks with the government and that they have been asked to make their cars in India. While interacting at India Today Conclave 2021, Nitin said that Tesla is not that expensive anymore.
“We have asked Tesla to bring in its technology and expertise to us and help build an eco-system in India, instead of bringing in vehicles from China. Our government will help in every possible way, considering India is a huge market and there is a demand for electric vehicles as well,” the minister said.
Gadkari also said that a Tesla car will be ‘Sasti’ and they should price its vehicles at Rs 35 lakhs. Earlier this year, Elon Musk confirmed Tesla’s India entry via a tweet, with a positive movement on the ground since then, as the company registered its office in Bengaluru.
The manufacturer is also looking for spaces in Delhi and Mumbai for its showrooms in the upscale areas of the respective cities reportedly. The recent meeting of Tesla India officials with the Secretary, Road Transport & Highways Ministry, Giridhar Aramane in Delhi adds more fuel to the speculations.
