DMK’s R.K. Nagar candidate Marudhu Ganesh has said that the DMK would win next month’s by-polls convincingly. “This victory would be the ‘trailer’ of bigger things to come when the DMK faces mid-term Assembly polls in the near future,” he said.
Close to an year after the demise of its incumbent MLA and former chief-minister J. Jayalalithaa, R.K. Nagar is gearing up for by-polls to be held on 21st December after the April 12 by-polls were cancelled at the very last moment in the backdrop of complaints of large-scale indulgence of cash-for-vote practice against all leading political parties received by the Election Commission.
DMK, which nominated advocate Marudhu Ganesh to contest the cancelled by-polls, has renominated him thus becoming the first party to nominate its candidate for the high-profile by-polls. “I’m thankful to the party high command for renominating me to contest from R.K. Nagar; in fact, I’m happier now than I was earlier. I consider it a privilege as the party has trusted an ordinary cadre like me to contest from here.
“We have been informed by the polling officials that strict action would be taken and vigil maintained to prevent cash-for-vote practice. We also have our own teams to watch and report such activities. People look up to party’s working president M.K. Stalin as the ‘dawn’ for the future. The victory in R.K. Nagar would be the curtain-raiser for bigger things to come as we may face mid-term polls soon,” he said.
In the meantime, parties such as the Congress, IUML, VCK, Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK) and CPI have expressed their support to the DMK candidate.
