The socially driven R.J.Balaji had recently voiced out his support for the Tirunelveli family suicide owing to usury. He urged the state to come up with measures to rally against loan-sharks and exorbitant interest rates that devour poor families.

Recently cartoonist Bala’s sketch criticising the incident received flak leading to him being arrested yesterday. Many political leaders, people from the press and the film community have been voicing their support for the cartoonist who is out on bail.

Joining the bandwagon of supporters, R.J Balaji has termed the arrest to be ‘scary’.  Stating that what happened in Tirunelveli was tragic and shameful, he also added that the right way to deal the problem was to act on the issue and to see that it doesn’t happen again.

“Arresting cartoonists, activists and suppression of people with different opinion is scary. We are already tired of this politics, don’t make us feel sick now,” Balaji said.
