Rishi Sunak, who recently became the Prime Minister of the UK, today greenlighted 3,000 UK visas for Indians. The welcome development took place merely hours after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The same has been described as a victory for Modi's diplomatic efforts to secure benefits for Indian citizens, especially students wanting to emigrate to the UK.
Others are seeing it as symptomatic of the urge of thousands of Indians to fly to Western countries for education or employment. "Either way, it is brain drain," the critics are lamenting.
Ever since Rishi Sunak became the PM, there have been speculations about whether he is going to be good for India and if yes, to what extent. There is a feeling that he must be invited as a guest for the upcoming Republic Day celebrations at the Red Fort. Sunak is seen as India's son-in-law given his Indian origin.
