Jamuna today breathed her last at her residence in Hyderabad. One of the most popular female actors in the Telugu film industry in the black-and-white era, Jamuna made her acting debut in the year 1953 with the film 'Puttillu'. Two years later, the actress delivered her breakout hit, 'Missamma'.
The multi-lingual actress did movies even in Hindi, not just in Telugu, Tamil, and Kannada. 'Chiranjeevulu', 'Appu Chesi Pappu Koodu', 'Jalsa Rayudu', 'Gulebakavali Katha', and 'Mooga Manasulu' and many others are her popular Telugu titles.
Jamuna became vastly popular for her natural portrayal of Satyabhama in the 1965 movie 'Sri Krishna Tulabharam', which starred NTR as Lord Krishna.
It is said that it was 'Mahanati' Savitri who encouraged Jamuna to enter the film industry after watching her stage performance. Thanks to her motivation, Jamuna entered the field at the age of 15. The versatile actress went on to act alongside almost all legendary male actors of her era.
On the personal front, Jamuna was married to Professor Juluri Ramana Rao, who died in 2014. Her son Vamsee Juluri is a Professor working in San Francisco. They have a daughter named Sravanthi.
On the political front, she had a brief stint with Congress when she won as an MP from Rajahmundry. Later, she became a sympathizer of the BJP during the Vajpayee years.
