Ram Gopal Varma, a day after participating in the pre-release event of 'Maa Ishtam' in Hyderabad, has withdrawn the movie's theatrical release indefinitely. The director, known for weaving controversies, has attributed the postponement to the alleged non-cooperation by several theatres to screen his movie owing to its sensitive theme of lesbian romance.
"I regret to inform you we are postponing the film 'Maa Ishtam' ('KHATRA DANGEROUS' in Hindi) due to the non-cooperation of many theatres due to its lesbian theme. We will proceed in all ways to fight this injustice and come at a later date," RGV tweeted.
Earlier, PVR and INOX decided not to screen the movie owing to a programming call.
Varma's decision to postpone the Naina Ganguly-Apsara Rani release disappoints none. The movie was carrying low buzz anyways.
This week, Varun Tej's 'Ghani' and 'Katha Kanchiki Manam Intiki' are hitting the screens.
