RGV opines on 'controversial' Islamic issue

Ram Gopal Varma has given his opinion on the ongoing Hijab row in Karnataka. In one of the tweets, he suggested that he believes Hijab/Burqa is not integral to Islam.
In a series of tweets, RGV said that it may be discriminatory to single out a particular dress like a hijab. That said, the filmmaker added, "At the same time it’s also true that standing out might become distracting, bringing forth the question whether faith should be only privately practiced and not advertised."
In another tweet, sounding soberer, Varma wrote, "The uniform (in schools and colleges) does unify at least on a visual aspect, but it can also be argued that it conceals the true nature of the student because what one chooses to wear is a self expression, and that should be a fundamental right in a democracy."
In Karnataka, the other day, the government announced holidays for three days for all high schools and colleges over the Hijab row. The issue of whether Muslim girls can wear Hijab in the classroom has been referred to the larger bench of the High Court of Karnataka.
Zeroing in on a particular dress like hijab does seem discriminatory but at the same time it’s also true that standing out might become distracting ,bringing forth the question whether faith should be only privately practiced and not advertised

The uniform does unify atleast on a visual aspect but it can also be argued that it conceals the true nature of the student because what one chooses to wear is a self expression, and that should be a fundamental right in a democracy
