The Hyderabad police have reportedly booked director Ram Gopal Varma in an alleged cheating case. The case was filed on the basis of a complaint lodged by a financier-producer named Koppada Sekhar Raju, who runs a Tollywood filmmaking banner named Sekhara Art Creations. The controversy is over a film titled 'Disha', which RGV sought to make in 2020 based on the shocking death and murder of Disha, a Hyderabadi vet doctor.
As per a news agency report, the financier gave RGV a sum of Rs 8 lakh in January 2020 to make the film. RGV borrowed another Rs 20 lakh and Rs 28 lakh a few months later the same year. Raju sought the loan amount to be returned when he learned that RGV was not producing 'Disha' but someone else was doing it.
RGV now faces complaints under Sections 406, 417, 420, 506 of IPC 156 (3) of CrPC.
Recently the release of RGV's 'Maa Ishtam'/'Dangerous' was stayed by the Telangana High Court twice. It's in connection with another complaint lodged by another producer.
