Chakri strikes back
Tuesday, January 21, 2014 • Telugu Comments

The albums of YVS Chowdhary's films have always been the talk of the town.  Rey, a film that has been in the making for long, is finally out.

The songs are hatke and the music is not regular, in tune with the backdrop of the film.

Girls

Singers: Ranjith, Noel Sean, Shravani, Sahithi, Deepthi, Pranika, Neha

A peppy song, this one is a romantic-duel song.  The lyrics talk about the travails boys have to undergo because of the girls' oh-so-much beautiful looks, warts and all.  Though it is not the first time that such a song has been composed, this peppy number sets the mood for the songs ahead.  Good lyrics and fairly entertaining music, one waits for Sai Dharam Tej's dance moves.

Oh Dear

Singers: Chakri, Hema Chandra, Chandra Bose

Perhaps, the song was designed mainly to cater to the hero's presumed great dancing skills.  The song is progressively exhilirating.  The lyrics are amusing and the vocals are just fine.

Rey Theme

Singers: Noel Sean

Although this trendy music induces a sense of deja vu, the theme number is a feather in the cap of this album.  Noel Sean's vocals lend it a touch of zeitgeist.  Zany, in a word.

Golimar

Singers: Vasu, Noel Sean

With the catchy throwback to Pawan Kalyan's Badri at the very beginning and a popular item number from Bollywood, Golimar is immensely entertaining.  Vasu's vocals could be unsettling for many listeners.  Though the lyrics are not amazing, the song's peppy feel camouflages the inadequacy.  A kind of remix, it will be a tragedy if the picturisation is shoddy.

Dance

Singers: Jaspreet Jasz, Suchitra, Revanth

This song could be hauled over the coals by the traditionalists.  But don't mind, the album may actually be meant to be that way - crazy.  The vocals are not catchy and are found drowned in cacophony.  As the title of the song indicates, one has to watch out for the dance and not the lyrics or the music.

Rey Manthra

The song is in tune with the feel of the album.  One expected something more, going by the title of the song.  Though it doesn't disappoint, it could have been better.

Power of Rey

Singers: Chakri, Noel Sean, Bhargavi Pillaye

It's a typical Chakri number.  The song is dominated by inspired music and it is difficult to detect tuning, although the instrumentation attracts our attetnion to begin with.  There are morals laced with the symphony.  The vocals are fine.
