Rewind 2014: Women Centric films and Heroines battle against unjust remuneration disparity!

The year 2014 may go down in the history of Bollywood as a revolutionary year in terms of women empowerment. The year witnessed an array of not just women oriented films but even the heroines daringly came forward and voiced their anger against the unjust remuneration disparity in the film industry.
The year began with Madhuri Dixit's authored backed role in DEDH ISHQIYA, which took upon the taboo subject of the LGBT community (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual Trans-gender).
In fact the producer of the film even hosted a screening of the movie for the LGBT community at the PVR Juhu, Mumbai. The Madhuri Dixit and Huma Qureshi's alluded lesbianism won overwhelming response from the community.
Kanagana Ranaut's QUEEN, was the surprise hit of the year. Released on Women's Day, the director Vikas Bahl deserves kudos for beautifully depicting the journey of self-realisation of a woman in the film.
Imtiaz Ali's HIGHWAY explored the histrionics of the young actress Aliya Bhatt to the hilt. The movie captures the landscapes of Northern India, in the backdrop of a kidnap drama involving the young daughter of a rich man, who finds freedom in her captivity.
Priyanka Chopra's biopic MARY KOM depicting the struggle and success of the lady boxer against her father and the corruptions in the sport won the hearts of the audience.
But the movie that won real triumph both commercially and critically was indeed Rani Mukerjee's MARDANI that brilliantly exposed human trafficking in the country.
Other prominent women centric movies included BOBBY JASOOS, GULAB GANG, REVOLVER RANI, KHOOBSURAT etc.
