Yesteryear actress Revathi (also spelled as Revathy) is going to wield the megaphone for a Hindi film. The same will be a remake of 'Arth', the 1982 cult classic. The critically-acclaimed film, touted to be one of the greatest dramas ever made by Hindi film industry, was directed by Mahesh Bhatt.
While it's not yet known as to who will act in the remake, Revathi has teamed up with Kamlesh Pandey to pen the script. It's difficult for anybody to convince the maker of a masterpiece that you are the right person to direct it. And it is to Ravathi's credit that Mahesh is happy she is taking the baton forward!
While 'Arth' was an award-winning film, it didn't gross big-time at the box office. Many distributors were too scared to invest their monies in the movie. "The semi-autobiographical film was written by Mahesh Bhatt about his extramarital relationship with Parveen Babi," a Wikipedia post says.
Interestingly, Revathi had reprised Shabana Azmi's role in the Tamil remake of 'Arth'. Titled as 'Marupadiyum', the film was directed by Balu Mahendra. Recently, 'Arth' became the first Hindi film to be remade in Pakistan.
