Though the producers and directors have passionately made remakes of masterpieces in the past, the trend never quite picked up, owing to the fact that they had all (or most of them) been flops.

Come March last week, Maro Charitra will hit the screens. As is well-known, this Ravi Yadav-directed film will see Varun Sandesh and his muse repeating a well-remembered love story.

If Devadasu Malli Puttadu, a failed attempt by Dasari Narayana Rao, was a nightmarish experience, so also one or two insignificant remakes which didn't work.

The Telugu maker has long abstained from re-interpreting films. Maro Charitra comes at a time when there is a scarcity for novel ideas.

If this film rakes in moolah, the Telugu filmmaker will find the remake idea absolutely great.
