Reliving the Legacy Yuvraj Singh: Videos, Tweets and Lots of Love
- IndiaGlitz, [Tuesday,June 11 2019] Sports News
Yuvraj Singh is a supreme cricketer. His contribution to the Indian team will always be remembered. The all-rounder who retired as of 10th June, has had his ups and downs, on and off the field. The 37-year-old seemed very emotional as he gave his speech at the press conference. He spoke about rejecting the offer for a farewell match saying: “I was told… If you cannot pass the Yo-Yo test, then you could play a retirement match. I said I do not want a retirement match and if I do not pass the Yo-Yo test, I would go home. I passed the Yo-Yo test and the rest is not my call.”
As he embarks on his second innings, his teammates and other cricketers wish him well on Twitter. Sachin Tendulkar lauded his fellow batsman calling him a ‘true champ’ and thanking him for everything that he has done for cricket. Gautam Gambhir referring to his teammate as the ‘best ever white ball cricketer India had,’ said that BCCI should retire the Number 12 jersey in tribute of the fantastic cricket that he has played. Rohit Sharma also expressed his love for Yuvi and said that he should have gotten a better sendoff.
Captain Virat Kohli called the Sixer King an ‘absolute champion,’ thanking him for the memories and victories. Viru also poured wishes for his teammate, saying that players like him are hard to find and that he has ‘thrashed disease, thrashed bowlers & won hearts.’ Mohammad Kaif said that he was very proud of Yuvraj and that he was one of the ‘greatest match-winners.’ Suresh Raina calling Yuvi an ‘inspiration forever,’ wished him all the best for his second innings.
Pakistan batsman Shoaib Malik also wished him and described Yuvraj’s cricket as ‘absolute legendary stuff.’ But what was surprising to see was Stuart Broad’s wish on Instagram. Calling him a legend, Broad asked Yuvraj to enjoy his retirement. I think the moment of Yuvi’s that will always stay in our minds is the 6 sixes he hit off Broad’s over against England in the 2007 T20 World Cup. He still shares the record of fastest 50 (12 balls) in T20s. But this is just one example of what he is capable of. The Maharaj of Indian Cricket has not only played 40 Tests, 304 ODIs and 58 T20Is he has also earned millions of fans. Wishing him happiness and success as he embraces the next innings.
What a fantastic career you have had Yuvi.
