IMD issues to Chennai and the adjacent districts once again - Forecast Details

Red Alert was issued for coastal regions in Tamil Nadu last week. Chennai and the adjacent coastal districts suffered intense rainfall and floods due to the low-pressure depression system in the Bay of Bengal. Now, the Indian Meteorological Department has once again issued a red alert to 4 TN districts today. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the alerting areas.

On November 16, the IMD has announced that the coastal and the internal districts of the state will receive a heavy downpour from the new low-pressure area, which was formed near Andaman & Nicobar on Nov 13. The low-pressure area is currently lying over the Southeast Bay of Bengal. It is likely to move nearly westwards and reach Westcentral & adjoining Southwest Bay of Bengal off south Andhra Pradesh- north Tamilnadu coasts on 18th November.

Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal and Coastal Andhra Pradesh on 17th and isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls over north Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal and south Coastal Andhra Pradesh on Thursday, November 18. South Andhra Pradesh and north Tamilnadu coasts will experience strong winds of speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph on 17th & 18th November.

The IMD issued red alert for Chennai, Tiruvallur, Ranipet and Kanchipuram. The aforementioned regions are expected to receive extremely heavy rainfall of more than 204.4mm. Tiruvannamalai and Chengalpattu districts are issued Orange Alert and are likely to experience very heavy rainfall of 115.6mm to 204.4mm. Cuddalore, Krishnagiri, Kallakurichi, Dharmapuri, Salem and Erode places are forecasted to have a heavy rainfall of 64.5mm to 115.5mm with Yellow Alert.
