`Rechipo' released today starring Nithin and Ileana who is running with successes in recent times. Let us see how far the film faired well.
Story:
Shiva (Nitin), is a guy who believes in the Taxman strategy - robbing the rich to feed the poor. Shiva soon comes to know of the 500 crore rupee booty stashed away at the Home Minister's (Ahuthi Prasad) residence. He sketches out a plan to steal that money and succeeds in it. The money actually is the illegal earnings of the Mafia through cricket betting and was seized by the police. The Mafia comes to know that their money is stolen and as retaliation, the Don kidnaps the Home Minister's daughter, Krishna Veni (Ileana). He asks to pay him back his 500 crore and for the release of his arrested men in exchange for the minister's daughter. Krishna Veni being his girlfriend, Shiva flies to Dubai and fights off the baddies to rescue her. Shiva's efforts to bring back his girlfriend forms the basic substance of the film.
Performances:
Nitin seems to have a problem with his delivery and barring that he is ok. Ileana is the star of the ship as she portrayed her character quite well and her looks are only going to add that necessary oomph factor to the movie. Ahuthi Prasad's skills were a bit let down in the Home Minister's character but that is nothing compared to the portrayal of Bhanu Chander as the police commissioner, which looked utterly helpless. Sunil and Raghu Babu's comedy is sometimes, if not most of the times, irritating while that of MS Narayana is a bit soothing compared to that.
Technical Aspects:
Technically the film falls short on most counts. The music for one is quite ordinary, nothing exciting or groovy. The graphics look like they are just for the sake of it. Whatever good production values the film has are more than offset by the story and narration.
Director's Portrayal:
The screenplay needs to be much more assuring if it is to make people believe in what it shows. Again, the director falls much short of the line, if not faltering at the base itself, in narrating a predictable and much used storyline and he looks to have ended up with an uninspiring product.
Critic's View:
When the most crucial aspects of a film like the screenplay, music, comedy and acting (much of it looks indifferent) all fail in sync with each other, there won't be anything worthwhile left in the film. The only thing that resembles something close to great is Ileana. But that, even when coupled with the production values, doesn't seem to be enough to save the ship from sinking.
Verdict:
Watchable, but only if one has absolutely zero expectations.
Released On: 25th Sep 2009
