Chris Van Dorn is not a hero just because he dresses like Batman, there’s something else that sets him a class apart. The 27-year-old has been involved in saving animals from euthanasia and he does it in his special Batman suit. A fan of the superhero, Van Dorn thought he could draw attention to the need for pet adoption through his costume. It not only acted as a conversation starter but also kept him anonymous. After he was featured as an honorary GoFundMe hero, his identity came to light.
Van Dorn’s nonprofit organization ‘Batman4Paws’ has rescued several dogs and cats from euthanasia, finding them loving homes. He says: “When I was first starting out, I was keeping everything really anonymous. I would sign everything ‘Bruce Wayne’ and not put my real name out there … My catchphrase is, ‘It’s not who I am underneath but what I do that defines me’ and I still hold that true today.”
The hero has been getting a lot of funding after being recognized. He hopes to get a donation of a bigger Batmobile like a van so he can help more cats and dogs. Being licensed to fly an airplane, he is also looking to transport animals in distress by air. Along with his partner and therapy dog Mr. Boots, Van Dorn extends his support to hospitals, fundraisers and adoption events. What do you think of this real-life hero?
