Ready to face any situation at Doklam, asserts Nirmala

Union Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has asserted that the Indian army was in a high degree of preparedness and was ready to face any kind of situation at Doklam and elsewhere.

The Minister's assertion comes in the wake of Chinese warning to India to 'beware' of what happened earlier in Doklam.  China had been intruding in Doklam near Tibet since last June and had been laying roads and setting up army camps to which India expressed its strong reservations.  This led to a virtual stand-off between the security forces of the two countries which amassed soldiers.

After peace-talks were held, India and China withdrew additional forces from Doklam after more than 70 days.  It now turns out that China is making a fresh bid to intrude in Doklam.  Nirmala, who interacted with students at Dehra Dun where they had come to appear for National Defence Academy's entrance exam, said that the Indian army was in a state of high preparedness.

Our forces are capable of withstanding any situation even as India is keen to ensure peace in the region.  We are, however, prepared to face any eventuality that might arise in future, she said, sending a strong signal to the Chinese side that India won't remain a mute spectator to Chinese incursions.
