The most popular T20 cricket tournament, the Indian Premier League, will have its 15th edition in 2022. With a total of 10 IPL teams including two new franchises, the season is all set to begin on March 26. Meanwhile, the famous team Royal Challengers Bangalore has named its new captain recently.
One of the dominating franchises in IPL history, Royal Challengers Bangalore was led by former Indian national cricket team captain Virat Kohli over the last 10 years. Virat took over the captaincy from Daniel Vettori in 2013 as their full-time captain. He led the side to the finals in 2016.
Virat Kohli stepped down from RCB's captaincy in 2021. On March 12, the captaincy was passed on to the explosive South African opening batter Faf Du Plessis. Faf du Plessis will be the 7th captain to lead RCB in IPL. The 37-year-old cricketer has played as one of the openers in Chennai Super Kings for over a decade.
Du Plessis also received a bid from the Super Kings in the mega auction earlier this year, but the Royal Challengers eventually roped him in for INR 7 Crores. "Coming in as an outsider, I'm deeply grateful for the opportunity," du Plessis said in Bengaluru. Yet to win an IPL crown, RCB will have its first match against Punjab Kings in Mumbai on March 27 in IPL 2022.
