In a shocking incident, a 9-year-old girl infected with the novel coronavirus was sexually assaulted by a sweeper at a private hospital.

The incident happened in the Rawabhata area of Chhattisgarh. The girl, who has been living at her uncle's house in Raipur, was shifted to the hospital on August 2 after showing symptoms of the novel coronavirus, where she tested positive for the viral infection. The accused, identified as Kanhaiya Nishad, had allegedly been stalking her ever since she was admitted to the hospital and would follow her anywhere she went. He had even told her that he would take her out and then bring her back, and the girl had declined the offer. On Thursday morning, the girl had gone to the washroom to take a shower. The accused entered the bathroom as well on the pretext of filling the buckets with water.

He had then allegedly held her hand and sexually assaulted her. The girl was apparently discharged from the hospital soon after while the accused has been arrested and booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
