This is the film with title 'Brahmana' later changed as 'Ravishastri' a carbon copy of yesteryears 'Idhu Namma Aal' of K.Bhagyaraj. This film hurts the sentiments of Brahmin and lower caste communities in many of the scenes. This script was not agreed by Dr.Rajkumar family when it was brought with some modifications by K.Bhagyaraj on the grounds that it hurts the particular communities.
Ancient customs has the force of law. Do not withhold good from those who deserve it. Do not accuse a man when he has done you no harm. This is nothing but committing adultery with no proper judgment! So are the director and producer of this film. While picking the original it deserves a careful thought. Some of the scenes should have been omitted or polished. There are half a dozen scenes that definitely hurt the sentiments of upper caste Brahmin and lower caste community.
The basic fault is with the title. A lower caste community does not keep his son the name 'Ravi Shastri'. While pleasing the charisma of the hero these blunders occur. In the title card there are innumerable mistakes. How come the producer and senior director left it go without any correction?
Son of a barber Ravishastri (Ravichandran) ties the sacred thread to earn livelihood. His sole intention in life is to earn Rs.25000 for the eye operation of his mother. In the Brahmin colony Ravishastri on a false note is roaming around. His intelligence is liked by the chief of Brahmin community and offered a clerk job in the temple hoping that he is a Brahmin. Ravi Shastri is liked by Bhanu (Sneha) daughter of head of Brahmin community. Immensely in love obviously results in marriage. Soon after the Mangalasutra is tied the head of Brahmin colony (Played by Ananthnag) comes to know that he has been fooled. He takes a promise from Ravishastri that he is not going to touch his wife that is his daughter. Shock and dismay both surface at this stage. When head of Brahmin colony comes to know that his daughter went to the house of Ravishastri he decides to cut his relationship with his daughter once for all. Ravishastri on the other hand is on a mission to prove that humanity is more important than religion. He succeeds from his over smart attitude. When the height of melodrama is about to take the toll of father and daughter they are saved by Ravishastri. The head of Brahmin community bogs down to humanity.
The perfect choices for this film are Sneha, Ananthnag, Umasri, Karibasavaiah and Vinayaprakash. The beauty with mesmerizing impact on screen Sneha steals the show. Ravichandran looks plumb and he has done his role casually.
Rajesh Ramanath in music and Sundarnath Suvarna in cinematography have done their work in a hurry. The music eats away the lyric, bad lighting makes some of the portions look very pale.
This is a film that hurts and Brahmin and lower community at the same time.
Scoring - 4/10
