Raththa Charithiram
A good story knows no language barriers and it should come from the characters that one often sees in daily life, says maverick film director Ram Gopal Varma, who is getting ready for the release of his forthcoming film 'Raththa Charithram'.
The movie starring Suriya, Vivek Oberoi and Priyamani is simultaneously being made in Telugu and Hindi as 'Raththa Charithram'. "This is a special movie in my career. It is based on a real life incident that shook Andhra Pradesh a few years ago," Ramu says.
On reports that the film is loaded with scenes of bloodshed, the director says, "Those scenes were just a part of the film. It is no doubt a violent movie but it is not gory. Watch it, you can understand".
Harping on the film's theme, he says, "Though it (the movie) reflects the anger, agony and frustration of individuals in Andhra Pradesh, the emotions underlined in the story are apt and such characters can be found even in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar or Tamil Nadu."
On doing the movie in three languages, the director feels since the theme is universal, it has to be told to a wider audience. Impressed with Suriya's screen presence in 'Raththa Charithram', he says, "His volatile energy is what is needed for the character that he has performed. He has got under the skin of the character and given his best".
Expressing his delight for having worked with Varma, Suriya says, "The movie takes a genuine look into the emotions that each individual goes through. What forces a youth to choose a violent path throwing rules to the wind and how ordinary people react in extraordinary situations forced us to do the movie".
Produced by Madhu Mantena and Sheetal Vinod Talwar, the movie has Gnanavel penning the dialogues while lyrics are by Na Muthukumar and Kabilan.
Ram Gopal Varma is planning to release 'Raththa Charithram' in Tamil and Telugu along with the Hindi version in August. However in Hindi, it would be released in two parts in a span of three weeks.
