Telangana's Chief Minister, KCR's daughter, and Member of the Legislative Council (MLC), Kavitha, is renowned for her unwavering commitment to various critical issues. She has consistently championed the cause of women's empowerment and advancement in diverse fields. On multiple occasions, Kavitha has voiced her party, BRS's stance on women's reservations in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. When the Union Government, led by Prime Minister Modi, passed the bill endorsing 33% women's reservation and transformed it into legislation, Kavitha was among the first to extend her congratulations.
Recently, MLC Kavitha has emerged as a strong advocate for women's cybersecurity following the alarming emergence of a deepfake video featuring the beloved actress Rashmika Mandanna, widely hailed as the National Crush, which sparked a major controversy. Kavitha candidly shared her sentiments, stating, "The recent deepfake targeting Actor Rashmika Mandanna exposes the alarming ease of narrative manipulation online. Urgent action is required to safeguard Indian women from cyber threats. I appeal to the Hon'ble President @rashtrapatibhvn, Hon'ble PM @narendramodi, Minister of Electronics @AshwiniVaishnaw, and @Rajeev_GoI to establish a dedicated Parliamentary Committee to implement comprehensive measures. The time for concrete action is now, while rhetoric can wait. @CyberCrimesCyb."
Kavitha has consistently stressed that the Telangana government is collaborating with NALSAR University to create legislation that addresses cyber harassment faced by women. Despite the presence of cybercrime laws in the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the government's decision to introduce specific laws aims to facilitate training for citizens, the police, and companies. She proudly noted that women in Telangana know where to seek assistance, even in rural areas, emphasizing the accessibility of SHE Teams and the cybercrime department. As a result, Hyderabad is now recognized as one of the safest cities in the world.
The shocking incident unfolded when Rashmika Mandanna became the target of a deepfake video that quickly spread across social media platforms. This incident drew the serious attention of the iconic Amitabh Bachchan, who called for substantial action. Rashmika herself expressed her concerns, and Union IT Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar highlighted the Modi government's strong commitment to both cybersecurity and women's issues.
