A 23-year-old rape victim from Gurugram was shot dead by the accused after she refused to back down on her alleged sexual harassment complaint.
The incident was reported by the victim's teenage friend who was a witness to the murder. The accused, Sandeep, is reportedly a bouncer who worked at the same night club the 23-year-old did. Although the two were initially friends, the woman filed a complaint against Sandeep in 2017 for allegedly raping her. He was found guilty and arrested soon after, but was let off on bail last June. As the hearing for the case was due on Friday, the young woman's mother had arrived from Karnal to produce her statement in the court. She informed the police that Sandeep had come by their house to visit the victim that morning and forcefully took her away in his car along with her friend at around 5.30 AM. The teenage friend stated that Sandeep shot the victim dead after she refused to withdraw the sexual harassment complaint that she had filed against him. The other woman allegedly fled the crime scene soon after.
The victim's body was found lying near Khusboo Chowk situated on the Gurgaon-Faridabad expressway by some commuters who informed the police control room. The police are investigating the case, while the accused is on the run.
