A 17-year-old girl was raped by some men in January. His father searched for justice. He approached the village panchayat. Adding insult to injury, the panchayat allegedly told him to host a feast so that his daughter will get "purified". It was one more assault on the victim and her father.

The shameful incident reportedly took place in a village in Madhya Pradesh. "Since I didn't host a feast, me and my family have been labelled as an outcast," the aghast father has told a news agency.

The police have taken up the case. They are speaking to villagers to ascertain the facts and see if they can take action against those who have not only asked the old man to host a feast but also excommunicated his family for not doing so.
