A case has been filed against popular Malayalam vlogger and comedian Sreekanth Vettiyar based on rape charges leveled by a Pathanamthitta native woman. As per the complaint, the woman says that she became a fan of the Youtuber for his stands on social media on issues like women's empowerment and political correctness. The survivor and Sreekanth had known each other for many years.
In February 2021, he had invited her to a flat under the pretext of celebrating his birthday, where she was raped. Later, she was sexually assaulted in a hotel room in Kochi. In a #MeToo post on social media, the survivor also alleged that Sreekanth used his fame to manipulate his fans. Also, the survivor was also economically, mentally, and emotionally abused and manipulated multiple times, she said in the post. Reportedly, several other women have also flagged him of sexual assaults. A case under Section 376 (2)(n) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered against the blogger and the police are on the lookout for him.
