Director Kabir Khan's sports drama '83' was a well crafted and sincere tribute to the 1983 World Cup winning Indian cricket team. Starring Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev, the film had a gripping narrative, amazing performances and a large scale production but despite all that, '83' turned out to be a box office failure since its release coincided with third wave of the pandemic.
However, Ranveer Singh doesn't believe that the film was too big of a failure even from the commercial aspect. During a promotional chat for his upcoming film 'Jayeshbhai Jordaar', Ranveer told India Today, "83 was criticised by the trade for not having made as much money as it was projected to make. I would like to establish that it still made around Rs 200 crore in the middle of the third wave which is not bad at all. That many people went to watch it in spite of the third wave spreading like wildfire across the world. It was just a case of unfortunate timing."
The actor further added, "Perhaps it wasn’t a profitable film in terms of just money, but I will tell you it is among my most loved films. There is unanimous love for this film."
