When Mammootty acted without getting remuneration ...

Actor Mammoootty and director Ranjith have worked together in a number of movies and almost all of them were super hits such as Paleri Manikyam: Oru Pathirakolapathakathinte Katha, Pranchiyettan And The Saint, Kaiyoppu, and Black.

In a recent interview with a popular entertainment portal, director Ranjith had revealed one of his working experiences with Mammootty. Referring to the actor as his elder brother, Ranjith reminisced the time when he was shooting for his critically acclaimed film 'Kaiyoppu' that featured Mammootty in the role of a writer.

During the movie's discussion with Mammootty, Ranjith told him that he was planning to make the film on a shoe-string budget and that he wouldn't be able to meet up the Megastar's remuneration. Surprising Ranjith, Mammootty did not demand any remuneration, rather he just enquired him the number of days required for the shoot. In fact, the Megastar did not even demand any transportation expenses.

Ranjith's words:

“After completing ‘Ravanaprabhu’, I shared the thread of my movie ‘Kaiyoppu’ with Mammotty and Siddique. When I told him that I am planning to shoot the movie in a low budget, he asked me that how many shooting days were needed for the lead role Balachandran. I replied to him that I won’t be able to meet his remuneration. He responded that he only wanted to know about the number of shooting days and not his remuneration. Surprising me, he arrived for the shooting without taking remuneration and also no demand for transportation expense. Within 14 days, we completed the shooting,” Ranjith narrated his experience with Mammootty."

The movie 'Kaiyoppu' chronicles the life of a potentially award-winning writer who suffers from writer’s block and the changes he makes to those around him.
