The day is arriving, which has been awaited for six months now. 'Bombay Velvet', originally slated for November release, is now releasing tomorrow and comes with mighty expectations. Inarguably one of the biggest films ever made in the history of Indian cinema, 'Bombay Velvet' has been in news ever since it was announced with Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma. Though this has been Anurag Kashyap's dream project for a decade, it came into reality a couple of years back when it was finally announced that it would be going on floors soon. A couple of years into the making, the film is now set to hit the screens.
The film has gone through a roller coaster ride in terms of buzz, hype and vibes surrounding it. While the buzz was always there and hype too on a constant escalation, it is the vibe that has oscillated between extremes. If the first promo got a lukewarm response, the second promo got the wheels rolling for the film all over again. Now in the last fortnight or so, things have fortunately stabilized for Bombay Velvet, as a result of which no one is questioning the good opening it is all set to take.
One man who is going to make a huge difference to the initial footfalls is the central protagonist, Ranbir Kapoor. Since Roy, where he had just a special appearance, went on to cross the 10 crore on the opening day, it is pretty much expected that a hardcore Ranbir starrer would open much-much better. Moreover with Anushka Sharma and Karan Johar further adding on to the star value, the expectations are of a much higher number. Even an average start of 50% would pave the way for word of mouth to take over and decide the course of rest of the weekend. As for Anurag's content, it would do the talking from Monday.
As things stand today, 'Bombay Velvet' has a stage wide open for it to make moolah due to its solo release, though continued run of Piku at the multiplexes would give it some competition. However if the content is accepted, there won't be any stopping the film. A lot would also depend on the critical acclaim as the genre demands everything to go in its favor from that perspective as well.
