The movie "Animal," starred by Ranbir Kapoor and Bobby Deol and directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, released on December 1, 2023, proved its grand success at the box office, breaking several records of collection of over 800 crore in Rs. While the buzz is now building up around its OTT release, reports mention that the film is set to premiere on Netflix on January 26, 2024.
And now, there's a legal tussle attached to the movie. Cine1 Studios, a co-producer, has reportedly dragged T-Series to court over issues of non-payment and sought a stay on the OTT release of "Animal." According to a report in DNA, Cine1 Studios said in its plea filed in Delhi High Court that T-Series had not fulfilled its financial obligation regarding Animal's intellectual property rights. The complainant alleges a contract agreement via the share of profit and intellectual rights of 35 percent for Cine1 Studios.
Cine1 Studios, however, has claimed that there was a breach in the acquisition agreement and has sought an interim stay on "Animal's" release on Netflix. Senior Advocate Sandeep Sethi, appearing for Cine1 Studios, submitted, "They (T-Series) have been collecting all the money, but I have not been paid a single penny."
Reacting to this, Advocate Senior Amit Sibal of T-Series said Cine1 Studios had given up all intellectual property rights for Rs 2.6 crore and had not funded the film through an investment. He said that against that payment, there was an amendment in the contract on August 2, 2022. The next hearing for this case is scheduled for January 18, 2024. It would be interesting to see if the fact that it is now in court delays the OTT release of 'Animal'.
