Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor and his family are facing an FIR at a local police station in Mumbai for allegedly hurting religious sentiments through a viral video of Christmas celebrations. The complaint has been lodged by Sanjay Tiwari through his lawyers, Ashish Rai and Pankaj Mishra, at the Ghatkopar police station.
According to the complaint of Tiwari, the video showed the actor pouring alcohol on cake and setting it on fire while saying "Jai Mata DI." He stated in his complaint that in Hinduism, praying to the fire god is usually done before praying to any other gods. Kapoor was offensive, justifying his action of using intoxicants during another religion's festival as well as chanting "Jai Mata Di.".
However, till now, apparently no formal First Information Report (FIR) has been filed in this respect. The complaint specifically mentioned that Kapoor and his family consumed alcohol intentionally during their celebration, tantamount to a contradiction of Hinduism's trademark practice and hence taken as a phraseology insult that caused mental anguish to the complainant.
