Going with the current trend of remaking south movies, Bollywood has found its counterpart industries to be a great source of inspiration. 'Ghajini', 'Wanted', 'Ready', 'Bodyguard', 'Singham' - are examples of films that created Bollywood history that can never be repeated. Even now, the trend is in full flow with 'Kick' that stars Salman Khan, and 'Maryada Ramanna' is 'Son of Sardar' that stars Ajay Devgn being talked about already....

But what trade sources have found out is that B-town has missed out one Tamil film that promises to be another potential pot of gold, if it is remade in Hindi. And that is 'Paiya' - starring Karthi and Tamannah Bhatia and directed by Linguswamy.

For the Hindi remake, Linguswamy was keen to have 'Rakthacharita' fame south star Surya (also Karthi's brother) to play the lead. However, since Surya was found to be in neck-deep with his Tamil assignments (Singham, Ghajini are but a few of his earlier film remakes), the director moved on to do four Tamil films with UTV.

Grapevine has it that initially Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone were also considered as the lead pair for this film by the helmer but with their break-up, the on-screen Jodi aspirations came to an end as well. It is said that the mighty Khans are potential contenders for the lead role as makers are checking out the film with them in mind as well.

For the records, 'Paiya' is a superhit film that grossed over 50 crore business in Tamil with 20 crore overseas and over 20 crore for its Telugu version 'Awaara'. A well-acclaimed movie, 'Paiya' won several awards for its music and Filmfare (South) nominations for Best Actor and Actress Awards.

Written and directed by N. Linguswamy, 'Paiya' is about the interesting journey of a young couple. A beautiful, young woman, an IT employee, asks a jobless, happy-go-lucky man, to escort her from Bangalore to Mumbai. The man incidentally is in love with her. The film revolves around the various obstacles that the couple has to face during their trip bitter-sweet experiences and the manner in which they bond together during the journey - a typical story that seems right up Bollywood's alley.

Interestingly, the romantic thriller, though made for south, was based in Mumbai and was shot 70 per cent in the metro.

So which Khan will bag 'Paiya' for Bollywood? Which jodi will play the lead? Keep a tab on this space...
