Ranbir (Bombay Velvet) and Deepika (Piku) now head for 'Tamasha'

'Bombay Velvet' has created a record of amassing biggest losses of all times. With a poor opening, practically no word of mouth and zero patronage during the weekdays, it was a nosedive for the Anurag Kashyap directed film. With the filmmaker pretty much admitting the film's failure before the end of weekend itself, the writing was clear on the wall. The film's fate can be gauged by the fact that its first week total of 21 crore is less than Day One collections of Ranbir Kapoor's 'Besharam', which too was a flop. In fact it is even lesser than the first two days collections of 'Roy'.

While much is being said about 'Bombay Velvet' impacting Ranbir Kapoor's stardom, it is not going to be the case. A film's failure impacts most when a fan-base watches the film and rejects it. However, 'Bombay Velvet' wasn't even seen by anyone, whether Ranbir's fans or not. This clearly means that the target audience which likes Ranbir's work is waiting for the actor's next which actually delivers what is expected out of him. 'Tamasha' is all set to be one such film which has Ranbir coming in an Imtiaz Ali film of a Sajid Nadiadwala production. A perfect package, which is further accentuated by the presence of Deepika Padukone.

Now this is what's going to be a double whammy for Deepika as she would be entering 'Tamasha' straight after 'Piku' which is a Superhit now. With 65 crore under its belt, the film has now left behind 'Mary Kom' (64 crore), 'Queen' (62 crore) and 'Kahaani' (60 crore). The Shoojit Sircar film continued to hold really well in the second week and collected more than what 'Bombay Velvet' did in its first week. Even though 'Tanu Weds Manu Returns' is a major competition this week, Piku would continue to find audience, and is now heading towards the 75 crore at the bare minimum.

Meanwhile, 'Gabbar Is Back' has entered the fourth week in lesser number of shows at select theaters. The film has collected 84 crore and would end its run at the 85 crore mark. Hit.
